Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Segmental arched widows with radiating voussoirs; three sided bay window; 5 bay facade; one bay porch supported by capped square posts in poor condition. Rear and side additions. 1996- "This two story, brick, Georgian Revival house rests on a rock-faced concrete block foundation. The dwelling features a stone belt course, while two chimneys break the plane of its hip roof. A symmetrical, five bay facade is offset by a one story bay to the south. A wide cornice and frieze run the perimeter of the residence, while the windows are accentuated by segmental brick arches and lug sills. Although the structure's distinctly Georgian style would suggest that the original windows would have been multi-paned, the openings instead carry two-over-two light examples. The wooden panel, double-door entrance has a plain, flat head and the flat roof porch appears to be a replacement. In addition, a metal fire escape is located along the main facade. To be sure, this residence offers visual interest and retains a significant degree of historic integrity. Since no other Georgian Revival dwellings were surveyed within the project's large area, this fact suggests this style is somewhat rare in La Crosse." - "La Crosse North/South Transportation Corridor", WisDOT ID #5991-04-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (1996). 2017 UPDATE - THIS HOUSE LOOKS SUBSTANTIALLY LIKE IT DID WHEN LAST SURVEYED IN 1996. |
