Additional Information: | Previously surveyed in 1991. A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. The park office is a rectilinear one-story, side-gable structure constructed of cut stone. Presently (2006), it is covered entirely with wood siding. The small front-facing gable (originally the main entrance) has been enlarged to include a modern window opening only. The covered porch is also an addition and is now the location of the entryway. All window and door openings are modern replacements. Associated structures include a shelter, bathhouse, walls, trails, bridges, fence and a natural feature. 2022: The Park Office is a one-story, T-shaped building with a concrete foundation. The original cut stone structure has been reclad in horizontal wood siding. The intersecting gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles and the gable faces are clad in vertical wood boards of various widths with pointed bottom edges. Fenestration includes one-over-one, double hung replacement windows and paired, four-pane replacement windows. The windows have wood lintels and sills. A drive-up information window is located on a slightly projected, front-gabled bay, centrally located on the façade (south elevation). The main entrance is located on the east (side) elevation and is covered by porch under the main roofline. Construction of the Park Office was started by the CCC and completed by the prison camp in 1945. |
