Additional Information: | Composed of various additions and alterations; north wing has Sullivanesque ornament along the cornice line and tower and white concrete belt course dividing the structure horizontally. Very little architectural integrity remains. The northern wing of the hospital was replaced in 1930. The western wing facing South 10th Street was replaced between 1941 and 1961. None of the original building remains. St. Francis Hospital was established in 1886. At that time it was the only hospital outside of the Milwaukee vicinity and the first hospital in Western Wisconsin. #650: St. Francis Nurses Home (615 S. 10th Street); St. Francis Home (620 S. 11th Street) The map reference for St. Francis Hospital is LC EM (2), according to the inventory card. |
