It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Bracketed projecting cornice with denticulated cornice on side elevations; projecting window cornices on upper story and triangular pediment shaped projecting window heads on lower story; long, narrow windows. Elevated foundation with three entrances to upper apartments; basement area has been altered for commercial use; two story brick extensions at rear and added wooden exterior stairway. Built as downtown residential apartments in a style typical of the rowhouses that were used all over the United States during the 19th century, this significant structure is the only remaining such structure in the City of La Crosse. Built by Dr. Matthew Uhl as speculative property Uhl owned a house on the northeast corner of 6th and Main (no longer extant). Constructed for a cost of $6,000. 2017 UPDATE - NOT EXTANT. |
