Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Influenced by the early 20th century Neo-classical Revival, this rectangular creme brick two-story house has relatively simplified surfaces, a low hip roof, and plain windows with flat brick lintels. A front porch covered with a pedimented gable decorated with a stylized floral plaque and dentil trim under the eaves and on the porch are architectural details associated with Classical forms. This house is significant to the architectural history of La Crosse as the best representative of the Georgian mode of the Neo Classical Revival popular in the United States in the early decades of the 20th century. This brick veneer house was built for Otto Loeffler, president of the Elliott-Loeffler Co., wine importers, located at 222 Pearl Street. |
