Additional Information: | Projecting bracketed dentil trimmed metal cornice with triangular pediment; segmental arched windows with radiating brick voussoirs and stone keystones; south wooden oriel window; altered store front. The site of the Northside Bottling Works in the early 20th century, the Reichert Building constructed in 1888, probably incorporating an earlier structure, is important as one of the few early commercial structures in North La Crosse to have maintained its architectural character; however, the store front has been altered greatly. David Reichert operated a saloon on this site beginning in 1876. Prior to that he operated a saloon at another location. In 1870, he was a grocer on Main Street in La Crosse. In 1876, Reichert lived in a house at 903 Rose. He also ran a confectionary at 909 Rose by the 1880s. The brick veneer tavern was built between 1888 and 1890 on the site of the saloon and dwelling, 901-903 Rose. By 1891, we have Rechert's "Congress Saloon" with "Billiard Hall and Pool Room" at 901 Rose. He lived above the saloon and the Knight of Pythias met above the pool room. By 1906, the whole building is the North Side Bottling Works, with 903 being the "Pop Factor". 2016 UPDATE - NOT EXTANT. |
