Large brick structure with several additions; west main structure; brick surface divided horizontally by stone belt lines into base with round arched windows center with flat arched windows and top with round arched windows and brick pilaster articulation; projecting cornice at top of structure and high concrete foundaton; north side projecting bay with gable roof and stained glass; central entrance 5 story tower with final topped dome with round arched windows; pressed concrete entrance with round arched door. Hip roofed three sided four story bay next to entrance tower. Three story open rear porch. East wing: composed of several sections with varied window opening, articulated by brick piers and stone trim. East section date of 1892; projecting decked one story entrance with round arched window over rectangular portal. The Viterbo College Convent was first part of the Franciscan Sisters Convent. It was built in approximately 1892. It was important in the development of La Crosse as a center of Catholic institutions. |
