Additional Information: | Reflecting late 19th and early 20th century interest in new living styles, the Kingston Court Apartments of 1924-1925 were constructed without the guidelines of an established tradition. Using a laterally extended paln that relates to a common garden area, the barrel tiled pent roof blind corbeled balcony on a relatively plain structure alludes to the Spanish Colonial style while large round arched windows lighting the stairwellls vaguely suggest Renaissance Revival influence. Features include: three-story apartment structure with center front court, large round arched stairwell windows with fan-shaped tracery in the front, decorative brick belt courses and window ornaments, corbeled brick projecting brick work suggesting small balconies under two-story windows, sculptured parapets on the facades, red barrel tile pent roofs over the center bays of the facade of the projecting side wings, central entrance bay on the north elevation, brick garages...south side of the structure. Important example of an apartment based on early 20th century apartment design, the significance of the Kingston apartments needs further evaluation. Comprised of five-room, four room and three room apartments constructed by the Louis Fleischer Co. of Minneapolis. |
