It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Pedimented two-story gabled bays on east and south sides with shingles, dentil trim and projecting window cornices in gable ends; three-sided front bay window; two-sided screened porch; flat triangular pediment shaped stone window heads and stone sills and water table; frame entrance on west side. 1996- "Dominating the northwest corner lot of State Street and West Avenue, this large, two-and-one-half story, Victorian Queen Anne house is constructed of brick. Located at the southeast corner of the second story and further accentuating the residence's prominent location are two small masonry insets inscribed with "West" and "State," oriented to their respective directions. Gabled wing projections extend from a pyramidal hip roof core and rest on a coursed, rusticated stone foundation. A one story polygonal bay projects from the east wall. The bay is located between an enclosed, flat roof screen porch, which wraps around the southeast corner, and a smaller screen porch, also along the east wall. Pedimented gable peaks carry pented and bracketed windows, while fish-scale shingles cover the remaining space. Masonry hoods and lug sills accent all windows, and a dentiled cornice and wide frieze run the perimeter of the structure." - "La Crosse North/South Transportation Corridor", WisDOT ID #5991-04-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (1996). 2024: House is largely unchanged since last survey. Screens have been removed from the porch and the garage has metal segmental doors. |
