NOTES
Additional Information:1ST STORY HAS ARCADE OF 7 FLAT POINTED ARCHES SPRINGING FROM CORINTHEAN CAST IRON COLUMNS WHICH ARE ORIGINAL. WHEN BASSETT AND DAVIES REQUIRED MORE DISPLAY SPACE THEY HAD THIS BUILDING CONSTRUCTED ON THE REAR OF THEIR BUILDING.

The Bassett and Davies Building, erected in 1877, evokes the High Victorian Gothic, relatively rare for a commercial building. Notice the steep gables, trimmed with cusped Gothic bargeboards, that punctuate the bracketed metal cornice. The slightly pointed brick Tudor arches over the windows and the Tudor-arched corbel table under the cornice are also unusual. At street level, original cast-iron storefronts, embellished by fluted columns with ribbons spiraling up their shafts, lend an almost festive flair.
