NOTES
Additional Information:Formerly 413-421 St. George St. (1957 Sanborn-Perris Map). Unusually fine Prairie School design having a two-story tall polygonal front block and a one-stort rectangular block across the full width to the rear. The main facade is six bays wide and is dominated by two identical two-story tall arched entrance bays placed at opposite ends of the main facade. Both have corbelled semi-circular arched two-story tall surrounds of soldier course brick designed in a manner reminiscent of earlier designs by Louis Sullivan. Both the entrance doors themselves and the vertical wooden boards which cover the blind arches above are modern. The four large original display windows and their associated transom windows above, which make up the first floor of the four center bays, have also been filled with vertical board siding. Above these windows are four inset brick panels and above these are four groups of four 1/1 lite windows making a band across the facade between the entrance bays. There is a wide inset name panel across all 16 of these windows while the spandrels above the entrance arches are filled with header coursed brick. The building is topped by a terra cotta coping above both entrance doors. This is the only true Prairie style commercial building in Green Bay, and it is an excellent example of the style. The design evinces a true understanding of the more important elements associated with the style and uses them in a manner which gives dignity and importance to a building built as a neighborhood recreational center. Too altered with window infill and fenestration changes. DEMOLISHED for a parking lot in 6/1988. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4
