Additional Information: | This two-story frame vernacular commercial structure was built as Oscar Risberg's general store sometime between 1900 and 1908. It is located in the village of Lorain. The building retains its original boomtown false front, but has been severely altered on the first floor. While Risberg was the postmaster, from 1905 until 1914, he is said to have operated the post office from his store (he did operate a store with his brother prior to opening this one; the post office could have been there for part of his tenure). Risberg sold the store to B.W. Pritchard in 1916. It was bought by a man named Bierman in 1920, who sold it to R.F. Curnow in 1922. Everett Erickson purchased the building in 1961, closing the store for good in 1965. The building was rented as a residence for at least ten years after that. It is currently used as storage. See the Harry Anton Lundmark site file for a historic photograph of the building. |
