NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Excellent design having a long front facing wing housing an auditorium which is lit by large two story tall Tudor arch windows along its north and south facing facades, and which are framed by simple buttresses with cut stone caps. The elongated auditorium wing is the stem of this T Plan composition and its top is the school wing with classrooms arranged on two floors. This wing has an H Plan whose side salients face north and south and whose windows are all large flat arched 6/6 lite double hung type used in groups. All windows of this type, whether occurring in groups, pairs, or singly, have fine cut stone surrounds with rusticated architraves.

The front facing facade of the auditorium wing has a glable roofed ell facing the front containing the triple entrance doors, each with a large pointed arch transom lite above and all three having a cut stone surround with rusticated architraves.

The south facing facade of the school wing is symmetrical and is bisected by another fine slightly proejcting gabled entrance ell.

The Francis Xavier School building is an excellent example of an essentially Tudor Revival design whose Neo Gothic style entrance doors on Monroe Avenue echo both its church affiliations and historic precedent as wel. The design is notable for the excellent stone detailing throughout which contrasts splendidly with the brick walls of the building.

Together with the other buildings in the Cathedral District, the school is an impressive addition to one of Green Bay's most important institutions. The significance is heightened by its highly intact and well maintained state of preservation.

Original multi-light windows replaced since last surveyed in 1985.
