Additional Information: | Exposed rafter ends; bargeboards; leaded glass windows; open front porch supported by paneled posts placed on brick bases; paired front gabled roof dormers, twelve over clear plate glass windows; rear gable roofed screened porch. Characterized by a roof penetrated by dormers that extends over an open porch supported by flared short posts placed on brick bases, the Matthew Leinenkugel Bungalow has exposed rafter ends, a bay window, an exposed wall chimney, and a high brick foundation topped by a clapboard super-structure used to emphasize the structural parts, all typical of the style. The Leinenkugel Bungalow is architecturally significant as the most elaborate example of the bungalow house constructed in the early decades of the 20th century in Chippewa Falls. Feb. 2021: This 2 ½ story Craftsman bungalow was constructed in 1913 for Mathias and Catherine Leinenkugel. It is rectangular in plan with brick and vinyl sided walls and an asphalt-shingled side-gabled roof. The front elevation faces southwest and is asymmetrical in plan with a recessed porch spanning three-quarters of the façade. The porch features tapered wood pier supports that rest on brick quarter walls. The same brick clads a raised foundation level on the remainder of the façade, above which is a bank of three 12-over-1 windows. Inside the porch is a single door with sidelights and a picture window with leaded glass transom flanked by 12-over-1 windows. Two front-gabled dormers are located in the front roof slope; each dormer contains a bank of three small 12-over-1 windows. Projecting rafter ends are no longer present. |
