| Additional Information: | Flat stone belt course along the cornice and first story divide the surface; parapet with battlements; projecting two story entrance bays with stylized ornament, buttresses and pointed arched doors; two story west additon; multi paned rectangular windows; elevated foundation with half windows. Built in 1928, the St. Charles Catholic Grade School is the most elaborate of the three extant schools in Chippewa Falls built in the 1920's. Althhough an important representative of early 20th century school architecture, more research will be necessary before treh St. Charles School can be considered as an architecturally significant structure. This school building was built in 1928 under the direction of Rev. J. L. Kaiser, pastor of St. Charles Church at that time. It replaced an earlier St. Charles School which was opened in 1886 under the auspices of the Sisters of Notre dame.(C) #650: St. Charles Convent (39-17); St. Charles Rectory (39-30); St. Charles Church (39-19). |
