Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Spence Park is the site of the original public landing at La Crosse and, as such, was an important ferry and boat landing for settlers and travellers crossing the Mississippi. In 1908 it was included in the design of Riverside Park (to the west) by John Nolen. 2017 UPDATE - SPENCE PARK, WHICH IS PART OF RIVERSIDE PARK TODAY, REMAINS INTACT FROM WHEN IT WAS LAST SURVEYED IN 1996. |
