NOTES
Additional Information:Map Code is 070927200984. THIS BRICK, STONE, STUCCO RESIDENCE WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1929 BY LAW, LAW AND POTTER, ACCORDING TO THE PERMIT.

"In 1928 Leo T. Crowley commissioned his friend Edward Law of Law, Law, and Potter, to design this house for him, to be a home for his widowed mother and himself, his four sisters and two brothers.

The house is a fine example of English Tudor style of the Eclectic Resurgence. It is asymmetrical in design in contrast with the symmetry of the Georgian Revival style. Other features characteristic of the Tudor Revival style are: the half-timbers of the second story, the steep slate roof, the massive chimneys capped with chimney pots, and the Tudor arch of the front door.

There were once grass tennis courts below the gardens toward the lake.

Mr. Crowley had a distinguished career in business and in government under the Roosevelt administration. A devout Roman Catholic, he was made of Knight of St. Gregory by Pope Pius XII. Mr. Crowley died in 1972. The house remains in his family." Walking and Biking Through The Dudgeon Monroe Neighborhood, Dudgeon Monroe Neighborhood Association, 1979.
