Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Additional map codes are: FCS9/32 FRV6/7A-8A. Additional photo codes are: FCS 9/32 FRV 6/7A-8A. Related building: OU 29/23 (AHI# 38955). FCS 9/32 - COURTNEY WOOLEN MILL - is a two and a half story gabled rectangle with an offset, one and a half story shed-roofed extension at the front left corner. The upstream sidewall of the main block is three-quarters clad with asbestos shingles. This rear portion of the building has five wooden-framed windows in each story; the three right, rear windows in each story are vertically aligned. The front quarter of the sidewall, the roadside facade, and the office wing are built of rusticated cement blocks. The division between the building sections is also marked by a seam in the overhanging asphalt-shingled roof. The windows in the cement-block portion have cement sills and lintels and metal frames. The facade has a square attic window, two widely spaced, square, second story windows, and center and right ground story widows. Entry to the building is by an office door in the inner, upstream, short wall of the extension. The landward endwall of the extension has a single square window in each story. The site slopes toward the riverbank, exposing the basement story at rear. |
