Additional Information: | Pat's Tap is a one-story shed-roofed, Art Moderne style commercial building with a very finely conserved structural glass, aluminum and glass block facade. The storefront of abstractly patterned black and while tiles includes an aluminm framed horizontal window, a recessed doorway inset in glass block and shallow aluminum canopy shelf supporting the enameled metal and neon individual letters that spell PATS TAP, above a band of black glass tiles. The upper parapet is stuccoed. This structure is a fine and rare intact example of an Art Moderne commercial building. It contributes to the significance of the Proposed College Avenue Historic District under Criterion C as an outstanding small cocktail lounge facade displaying the characteristic carrara glass and glass block materials. The horizontal design emphasis with speed line detailing and neon signage typical of the modern style of the 1930's and 1940's. The building is remarkable for its excellent state of preservation. 2024: Not resurveyed, building has replacement siding and windows. Not contributing to College Avenue Historic District. |
