Additional Information: | This structure contributes to the significance of the East College Avenue residential Historic District under Criterion C as a pivotal example of a costly, architect-designed, Tudor Revival mansion displaying fine random ashlar masonry construction with limestone trim and a tile roof. This picturesque mansion is a food example of the Cotswold Tudor style that became so popular with the wealthy in the 1920's because of its charming, rambling informal look, adaptability to a variety of floor plan configurations and associations with the romantic country mansions or rural Englander and the life of the landed gentry. This house was last surveyed in 1991. Since then a greenhouse type addition has been added to the west wing. Despite the addition, significant foliage prevents a photo of the alteration. This house was built in circa 1928, as the plans are dated 1927, but this address is not yet listed in the 1928 city directory. The original owner is noted as John Conway, the owner of the John Conway Hotel Co. |
