NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This structure contributes to the significance of the Appleton City Park Historic District as a large, costly, architect-designed early twentieth century residence. Although of somewhat indeterminate style, this late Victorian house was probably thought of as Colonial when it was built. It illustrates a lingering Queen Anne influence in its eye-catching roof line and multiple textured cladding materials, but also reflects 20th century design trends in its near symmetry, its plain square porch piers, and its two level sun porch/sleeping porch. The house is also notable for its lavish use of rock-faced concrete block, a new material at the time. The matching concrete block and shingles garage is a handsome accessory structure. Additional map codes are: 7/8. Related building: OU 38/13 (attached).
