| Additional Information: | This is a two and one half story, gable-roofed, clapboard and shingle, rectangular craftsman style house. The Union Street facade features a deep shed-roofed front porch with square boxed posts resting on a red brick railing wall. The wood shingled second story has banks of grouped, 4 over 1 sash windows asymmetrically arranged. The roof has a wide, low, gabled dormer with four, 4 light, square windows sheltered by the bargeboard trimmed overhanging eaves supported by ornamental knee brace brackets. Garage. This structure contributes to the significance of the Appleton City Park Historic District under Criterion C as a fine example of a craftsman style house displaying all of the characteristics of the style including the wide overhanging eaves with exposed rafter ends, a deep front porch supported on massive square boxposts and knee brace brackets. This large, expensive, well-conserved dwelling illustrates the best of craftsman design for the affluent middleclass in the pre-World War I era. |
