A bracketed metal cornice (not an original feature) highlights this two story brick commercial block which contains five storefronts. The most western portion of the structure (409-411), erected in 1879-1880, features six segmental arch bays capped with hoods and a lower business area which is largely intact (currently this section of the block is being rehabilitated). On the remaining part of the building (413-417), constructed in 1883-84, the windows have been altered and the first floor storefronts modernized. An early photo of the building is contained in Eau Claire Illustrated, 1891-92.

2016- "The two-story Drummond Business Block consists of three buildings constructed between 1879 and 1884, but includes four storefronts. In 1920, the owneres unified the appearance of the buildings by adding a pressed metal cornice and a brick veneer, covering the old facade.

This block is associated with several historic manufacturing, wholesale, and retail businesses, including most notable the Drummond Packing Company, Eau Claire Grocer Compnay, and the Farmers Store Company.

Born in Canada, David Drummond settled in Eau Claire in 1870 and soon after his arrival entered into the meat packing business. Asdditionally, Drummond was one of the founders of the Eau Claire Gas Light Company, and his business interests later expanded to include real estate development and furniture manufacturing."
-"Eau Claire Landmarks: Designated Historic Properties in Eau Claire, Wisconsin", Eau Claire Landmarks Commission, P.O. Box 5148, 2016.

The Drummond Packing Company, wholesale and retail meats, occupied 409-411 Galloway Street from 1880 to 1941 (B). The Drummond Company, initially formed in 1873 as Brooks and Drummond, was, in 1893, incoporated as the Drummmond Packing Company. The firm was recognized as one of the largest and most complete packing plants in northwestern Wisconsin (A). (For more information concerning David Drummond, the company's founder, see 1310 State Street, 3P/17).

The Eau Claire Grocer Company was located in the adjoining section of the building. Incorporated in 1883, the company had the following officers: B.A. Buffington, president; W.A. Rust, vice-president; William Rowe, treasurer; and John Honer, secretary (A). In c. 1892 the grocery firm moved to a structure on Eau Claire Street (no longer standing).

In 1908 the International Harvester Company was located in this portion of the building (B).
