Additional Information: | A three story brick commercial building situated on the southwest corner of Graham Avenue and Gibson Street. The large structure is characterized by simple brickwork patterns at the cornice line and rectangular openings marked by rough stobe lintels and sills. According to Barland (A), the building was doubled in size in 1914. On the ground floor the original storefront area has been substantially altered. The Lange Canning Company was incorporated in 1904 with the following officers: G.J. Lange, president; Dr. E.S. Hayes, vice-president; F.A. Lange, secretary; E.B. Ingram, treasurer. The company erected this structure in 1904 and enlarged it ten years later. A warehouse and plant on the west side of the Chippewa River at the Madison Street Bridge (these are no longer standing) were constructed in 1916 and 1922. The 1914 county history described the firm which packed corn, peas, and pumpkin as "one of the largest and most important industries in Eau Claire." The Lange Company discontinued business in 1953 (A,B). 2019: Building has been demolished, c. 2018 |
