Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. C IN THE PHOTO CODES IS SHORT FOR CW. Original Cost: $6,000. This attractive residence is a fine example of the Arts and Crafts style. The two-story, rectangular building has a stuco-clad upper story and brick-veneered lower story. While the windows of the facade are arranged symmetrically around the round-headed center entrance, the house is given a picturesque treatment through the placement of its gables, the porch, and a shallow pent roof that extends around the house between the two stories. The upper story windows are framed by jerkinhead gables of different sizes, and the brick-piered porch has a combination flat and gabled roof, the gabled end of which has dramatically upturned and shaped rafter ends. Not much is known about the original owner, George M. Seifert. He is occoasionally listed as a salesman in the city directories, but mostly he appears without an occupation and may have been retired. Seifert lived here until his death around 1936, and his widow, Louise, continued to occupy the house thourgh the mid-1940s. In the late 1950s, St. John's Evangelical Church used this house as a parsonage. |
