Additional Information: | 2023: The house is a vernacular one and one-half story front-gabled single-family dwelling that was constructed in 1906. It is rectangular in plan consisting of the main front-gabled volume, a one-story hipped rear wing, and full-width hip and gable porch. The principal elevation faces north toward E. Madison Street. The foundation of the house is rock-faced concrete block. The exterior was clad in vinyl siding circa 1997 covering or replacing the original clapboard siding and patterned shingles in the gable. The soffit and fascia have also been covered with vinyl and the decorative barge board has been removed. The windows are predominantly one-over-one vinyl sash windows dating to circa 1997 except for one original or older “cottage” window in the north elevation that consists of a large single pane with decorative transom. The roof composition of the open-air front porch has been retained but the front-gable, the frieze, and the porch ceiling have been covered with vinyl. The squared posts and turned baluster railings replaced the original clapboard knee walls and classical columns. 1997: Sided and details removed. 1982: A one and a half story dwelling sided with both clapboards and shingles. The simple, yet picturesque, structure is characterized by a delicate gable ornament and a front veranda. |
