Additional Information: | G. Stuewe was the builder. This structure is a good example of a late Victorian residence. Constructed of Cream City brick it is in good condition and has undergone only slight alterations. 2014- "The Rudolph Stafford House is a large, two-and-one-half-story, Queen Anne house constructed in 1892 and designed by Crane & Barkhausen. It is of cream brick construction resting on a raised limestone foundation with a cross gable roof. Two substantial chimneys with brick corbeling are visible from the street. The upper half-story, including the gable ends, are clad in wood shingles. Each has simple vergeboards and three, one-over-one, double-hung windows with a slightly projecting lintel supported by brackets. At the east corner of the building is a three-story tower with brick corbeling between the first and second stories and shingles on the third story. The main (north) facade has a one-story, raised porch with a simple pediment and balustrade and it appears the original porch was replaced with this simplified version. Windows on the facade are mix of shapes and sizes, including large picture windows with simple transoms, windows with no transoms, and one-over-one, double-hung sash. A majority of the windows appear to be modern replacements. Rudolph Stafford was president of R. Stafford Company, which specialized in grocery items." -"W Wisconsin Ave, 20th St-35th St", WisDOT #2190-00-00, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc. (2014). |
