NOTES
Additional Information:2022 - The building located on this site functioned as a community gathering place from the 1930’s when it was constructed until it was sold into private ownership. It is a single-story front gabled building with wood clapboard siding and an asphalt shingle roof with a wide eave overhang and exposed rafters. It sits on a cement block foundation. A single door entrance is located on the front façade of the building. Concrete stairs lead to the door. On the south facing façade five 2/2 sash windows run the length of the building while on the north façade there are only four of the same style. A loading dock takes the place of the fifth window nearest to the front facade. The loading dock features a new garage door. A wooden ramp and dock lead to the door. 3/3 casement windows run the length of the foundation. A brick chimney is visible along the peak of the rear gable. The former Rockbridge Community Building was proposed via a committee of community members at a town meeting on December 19, 1921. At this meeting it was determined that the building would be erected in the Village of Rockbridge and be under the management of a board of trustees. Per the committee notes of January 20, 1930, the building was complete and “shall now and hereafter be maintained as a community building”. , Per the Secretary Notes from January 16th, 1933, a motion to put a cement floor in the basement of the building was carried. On January 9, 1953, further motions for various uses were brought forth to the committee and carried. These included use by the local school for pre-game activities and funerals.
