Additional Information: | Oiginally Surveyed 1993. Re-surveyed 2010: The Sherwood Garage was originally part of a #28;combination building#29; that also housed the Sherwood Bank (no longer in operation). Frank Groh and Anton H. Mueller were the driving forces behind the building's establishment, particularly the bank. Richard Crystal initially occupied the Sherwood Garage, selling and repairing Studebaker automobiles. By 1921, the garage was operated by John Stumpf and John Hartzheim who sold Nash automobiles. In 1945, John Stumpf moved his auto garage business from the Sherwood Garage to the Stumpf Ford Garage (AHI #43444). The Sherwood Garage was then purchased by Clarence Mueller, owner of the adjacent Hardware and Implement Store, and used as his implement repair shop. In 1963 Bill Mader began working in the Mueller Implement Garage. After seven years, he assumed ownership, taking over the implement repair garage. However, by 1971, he had moved his business to the Stumpf Ford Garage, which by that time had relocated to a newer garage at the intersection of State Highway 55 and County Trunk KK. The building is no longer in operation as a garage and is apparently used for storage. |
