Additional Information: | This two story house, built of locally quarried limestone, is an excellent and well-preserved example of the Greek Revival style. Typical of the style are the returns at the gable ends, small attic-story windows, boxed cornice with a full frieze, symmetrical facades, stone lintels and sills, and sidelights and a transom. Historic maps including the original land entry maps note that this house was owned by members of the Chapin family, who operated a nearby quarry. The original land entry map notes that the southwest quarter of section 13 in the Town of Janesville was first entered on April 16, 1840 by Gideon Chapin. |
