Additional Information: | EARLY BOARD AND BATTEN BARN ON SITE. 2021 - This farmstead includes a vernacular c.1870 house with some Greek Revival details and a mix of historic and modern outbuildings. The house is two stories with red brick cladding and a side gabled roof with cornice returns. The entrance is centered on the symmetrical façade and includes a small porch with a mansard-like roof, square wood posts, and spindlework. To each side of the porch is a six-over-six wood sash window within a segmental arch opening. Evenly spaced across the second story of the façade are three of these windows, and on each side elevation there are four, two to each story. At the rear of the building is a two-story addition that appears to be clad in wide gauge aluminum siding. The addition likely dates from the historic period. West of the house is a gabled basement barn with a concrete block foundation, board and batten siding, and corrugated metal roof sheathing. A driveway ramp leads to a large garage opening with a modern roll-up door. A modern addition to the front of the barn doubled its footprint. The addition has a cement block foundation and metal siding. Off the northwest corner of the barn is a modern animal pen addition with a shed roof. To the north of the barn are two small gabled outbuildings, a concrete stave silo, and two corn cribs, all of which appear to date from the historic period. Further to the north are modern pole buildings. East of the house is a small stone building that has the appearance of a smokehouse. |
