NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS TWO STORY STONE BUILDING, ORIGINALLY OPERATED AS A HOTEL, WAS LOCATED NEAR THE RAILROAD STATION ON THE NORTH END OF WISCONSIN AVE. AS IS TYPICAL OF THE BOSCOBEL STONE BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTED IN THE 1870'S, THE NATIVE STONE IS REGULARLY COURSED WITH SMOOTH FINISHED BLOCKS ON THE FACADE, ROCK FACED ON THE ELEVATIONS. THE FOUR SECOND STORY WINDOW OPENINGS FEATURE STONE SURROUNDS CULMINATING IN AN ARCH WITH KEYSTONE. THE CORNICE FEATURES FOUR BRACKETS AND A FRIEZE DECORATED WITH PATERAE. THE STOREFRONT IS A MODERN REPLACEMENT BUT REMAINS FLANKED BY THE ORIGINAL STONE CORNER PIERS. ADDITIONAL REMODELING HAS RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF WINDOWS ON THE FACADE. THE BUILDING IS SIGNIFICANT AS AN EXAMPLE OF A PERIOD OF CONSTRUCTION. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: VARIOUSLY KNOWN AS THE LIGHT HOTEL AND THE WISCONSIN HOUSE, THIS WAS ONE OF THE EARLY HOTELS LOCATED TO BENIFIT FROM THE RAILROAD AND IS THE ONLY KNOWN HOTEL STRUCTURE REMAINING IN THE VICINITY OF THE DEPOT. (B) THE HOTEL BUILDING IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE OF ITS CONTRIBUTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY.
