NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS FRAME ONE-STORY COMMERICAL STRUCTRUE WITH A SLOPING ROOF HAS A BRACKETED FALSE STORE FRONT WITH A GABLE SHAPE (OR PEDIMENT) IN THE OUTLINE AT THE TOP. FISH SCALE SHINGLES AND CORNER PILASTERS DECORATE THE STRUCTURE.. THE PEDIMENTED WINDOW HEADS AND THE RECESSED ENTRY FRON THE 19TH CENTURY, REMAIN ON THE STRUCTURE. THE STRUCTURE IS IMPORTANT TO CUBA CITY BECAUSE IT IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE EARLY COMMERCIAL STRUCTURES PRESENT AT THE BEGINNING OF ITS HISTORY. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THE KITTOE BUILDING IS HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF CUBA CITY'S COMMERCIAL DISTRICT. R. D. KITTOE BUILT THIS BUILDING IN 1896 TO HOUSE HIS DRUG STORE. IT WAS ALSO THE FIRST LOCATION OF THE FARMER'S BANK, LATER RENAMED THE CUBA CITY STATE BANK. JOHN LONGBOTHAM, GEORGE LOEFFELHOLZ AND JOHN WARRICK FORMED A BANK IN 1896. THE BANK WAS LOCATED IN THIS BUILDING. NAMED THE FARMER'S BANK IT OPERATED AS A PRIVATE UNCHARTERED BANK UNTIL 1903. IN THAT YEAR, LONGBOTHAM, LOEFFELHOLZ, AND WARRICK APPLIED FOR AND WERE GRANTED A STATE BANK CHARTER. THE FARMER'S STATE BANK ERECTED A NEW BANK BUILDING ON THE CORNER OF MAIN AND WEBSTER STREETS IN 1907. IN 1919, DELBERT LEE MOVED TO CUBA CITY, BOUGHT THE KITTOE BUILDING AND STARTED THE CUBA CITY CLEANERS. IT IS PRESENTLY THE RESIDENCE OF MR. LEE. (C) IT IS UNKNOWN AT WHAT DATE THE BUILDING WAS DEMOLISHED.
