Additional Information:BUILT 1849; MOVED 1888-1889. ARCHITECUTRAL STATEMENT: A FRAME (NOW SIDED) STRUCTURE WITH SLOPING ROOF THAT HAS THE GABLE FACING THE STREET. ALL OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTER OF THE BUILDING HAS BEEN OBLITERATED. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THIS BUILDING IS HISTORICALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE RELIGIOUS AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF HAZEL GREEN. THE BUILDING WAS THE FIRST METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN HAZEL GREEN. THE SECT WAS ORGANIZED IN 1845. FOUR YEARS LATER, THIS CHURCH WAS ERECTED AT THE SITE OF THE PRESENT UNITED METHODIST CHRUCH, 1920 S. PERCIVAL STREET. THE AUDITORIUM WAS ENLARGED 20 FEET IN 1856, BUT BY 1888, THE STRUCTRUE HAD GROWN TOO SMALL AGAIN. THIS BUILDING WAS MOVED TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION WHEN IT WAS DECIDED TO BUILD A NEW CHURCH AT THE OLD SITE (LOSS OF INTEGRITY). THE OLD METHODIST CHURCH TOOK ON A NEW ROLE IN HAZEL GREEN'S HISTORY. IT WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE CUBA CITY STATE BANK BUILDING.
