Additional Information: A SIMPLE BRICKWORK PATTERN AT THE CORNICE LINE AND SEGMENTAL ARCH OPENINGS LINKED BY A STRING COURSE CHARACTERIZE THIS SECTION OF THE WRIGHT HOUSE. ACCORDING TO THE SANBORN PERRIS MAP, THIS BUILDING WAS PART OF THE WRIGHT BLOCK NEXT DOOR. IT HAS A RECTANGULAR PLAN CONFIGURATION AND A FLAT ROOF. THIS 1883 BUILDING IS CONSIDERED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION.

THE SURVEY EVALUATION CRITERIA USED WAS ARCHITECTURE/ENGINEERING DATA.

THE COMMERCIAL HISTORIC USES OF THIS BUILDING INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: A HOTEL OCCUPIED IT FROM 1883 TO 1914 (A,B), AND A RETAIL STORE CONDUCTED BUSINESS THERE FROM 1914 TO THE PRESENT (B,C).

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:

THIS TWO-STORY SECTION OF THE ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT WRIGHT HOUSE IS IDENTIFIED BY A BRICKWORK PATTERN IDENTICAL TO THAT FOUND ON THE BUILDING'S THREE-STORY MAIN BLOCK. (THE OTHER SECTIONS OF THE BUILDING ARE SITES: 101 NORTH MADISON STREET, 8/2; AND 121-129 NORTH MADISON STREET, 42/15).

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

THE SAMPLE ROOM AND HOTEL KITCHEN WERE LOCATED IN THIS PORTION OF THE HOTEL UNTIL 1914. (B,C). IN 1927, A STORE (UNDIFFERENTIATED) AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY SHOP OCCUPIED THE GROUND STORY; THE DOOLITTLE HOSPITAL WAS LOCATED ABOVE. (THE DOOLITTLE HOSPITAL MOVED INTO THE BUILDING IN 1914). (B,C)
