Additional Information: THIS BRICK, TWO-STORY STRUCTURE WITH A SLIGHTLY SLOPING ROOF HAS PARAPETS AT THE ENDS OF THE BUILDING AND A SYMMETRICALLY DESIGNED FACADE. A DENTICULATED BRICK PATTERN ACCENTING THE CORNICE, A NARROW ENTRANCE DOOR WITH A TRANSOM WINDOW, STONE LINTELS, FLAT PEDIMENTED WINDOW HEADS AND A DECKED PORCH WITH FILLED IN RAILINGS SUPPORTED BY FLARED SQUARE COLUMNS CHARACTERIZE THE STRUCTURE. A ONE-STORY FRAME EXTENSION IS AT THE REAR.

THIS HOUSE IS ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY HOUSE OF THIS STYLE IN PLATTEVILLE. IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE A VERNACULAR FEDERAL STYLE BUILDING THAT WAS BUILT IN 1864-1865 FOR ARCHIBALD BELL.
