NOTES
Additional Information:The Trinity Lutheran School is significant under Criterion C as a good example of a Neo-Classical school building in Merrill.

Trinity Lutheran School, located at 611 W. Main Street was built in 1925 to replace their earlier location at 300 W. Second Street, which was completely destroyed by fire in that same year.

Re-surveyed in 2005. No significant change observed.

2005 Survey info:

1960 incongruent and ill-fitting addition added c. 1960.

The Trinity Lutheran School, supported by the nearby Trinity Lutheran Church, was established in 1886. The fledgling school held classes in several buildings, including a location at 300 W. Second Street that was lost to a fire in 1925. The following year, the school moved to its present location (AHI Record: Merrill City Directories 1893-194; Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps 1902, 1907, and 1926). The city of Merrill has several substantial institutional buildings of this type, and it is comparable to numerous similar schools in the region. This school has played an important role in the education of many of Merrill's citizens, but it has also sustained a substantial amount of alterations with a resulting loss of integrity. It now remains an unexceptional example of educational institution architecture.
