THIS TWO-STORY BRICK COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FEATURES A SLOPING FLAT ROOF AND A BRACKETED METAL CORNICE WITH DENTIL TRIM. THE WORD, "BANK" IS INSCRIBED ABOVE THE CORNICE. THE PROJECTING METAL WINDOW HEADS ARE EMBELLISHED WITH CORBELS AND PEDIMENTS. A CUT-BRICK STRING COURSE ACROSS THE FACADE FURTHER ACCENTS THE SECOND STORY. THE STREET-LEVEL STORE FRONT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY ALTERED FOR CONTEMPORY USE. (THE D.O.E. IS 5/15/1986).

HISTORIC BACKGROUND:

THIS BUILDING WAS PREVIOUSLY OCCUPIED BY THE STATE BANK OF PLATTEVILLE. (SEE BIB. REF. A, B). THE STATE BANK WAS FOUNDED IN 1905, AND REMAINED IN BUSINESS UNTIL THE 1970S. THE CURRENT OWNERS, FIRST FEDERAL SAVINGS AND LOAN, BEGAN TO OCCUPY THE BUILDING AT AN UNKNOWN DATE.
