THIS TWO-STORY BANK HAS A BRICK EXTERIOR, A FLAT HIPPED ROOF AND A STONE FOUNDATION. THE BRACKET AND DENTIL TRIMMED METAL CORNICE FEATURES ABOVE THE CENTRAL BAY A PARAPET WITH TWO CONE-SHAPED ACROTERIA. PEDIMENTED AND PROJECTING WINDOW HEADS ARE SITUATED OVER LONG NARROW WINDOWS. A CUT-BRICK STRING COURSE ADORNS THE SECOND STORY FACADE. THE STORE FRONT HAS BEENCOMPLETELY ALTERED.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:

THIS STRUCTURE IS IMPORTANT TO THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT BECAUSE ITS DECORATIVENESS ADDS VARIETY TO THE STREETSCAPE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE STREET LEVEL FACADE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY ALTERED.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

THIS BUILDING WAS ORIGINALLY OCCUPIED BY THE MOUND CITY BANK, FOUNDED IN 1915. (SEE BIB. REF. A,B). THE SECOND FLOOR WAS HOME TO A MASONIC HALL, WHICH USED THE BUILDING FROM 1884 TO 1915. THE STRUCTRE WAS BUILT IN 1883 AND REMODLEED IN 1915. (SEE BIB. REF. C, D).
