NOTES
Additional Information:The German Methodist Episcopal Church is a good representative of Gothic style church architecture in Merrill.

German Methodists lived in Wausau and the Jenny area in the 1860s, but Jenny and Merrill Methodists did not join the Maine Mission of the German Methodist Episcopal Church until 1884. Church members met in homes and the Norwegian Lutheran Church\ (not extant) on Second and Logan until 1888, when Reverend A. F. Ludwig founded the German Methodist Episcopal Church of Merrill. The congregation purchased lots from Jacob Winlund, who had bought them from T.B. Scott, for a new church. A.O. Juve received the contract to add a sough wing and tower to the church in 1901. From the early 1900s to the 1930s the German Methodists participated in camp meetings at Wausau's Marthon Park. In 1933 the congregatioan had 120 members who voted that year to alternate German and English services. In 1936 the church changed its name to Grace Methodist Church. Extensive remodeling took place in the late 1950s.
