NOTES
Additional Information:Built in 1882 during a period of rapid growth in Janesville, the four Conrad Cottages represent a rare early effort at tract-housing development, albeit on a small scale. The owner of the rental cottages, local grocer Charles Conrad, hoped to profit from the city's burgeoning population of industrial workers. The nearly identical cream-brick dwellings feature tall windows, framed by prominent brick label moldings, and window bays at the side elevations (two stories tall on two of the cottages), which suggest Italianate influences. The hoods over the entry stoops probably were added later.
