It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. BUILDING WAS DEMOLISHED JUNE, 1981. THE MAIN BUILDING WAS OPENED ON AUGUST 26, 1907, TO REPLACE THE NORMAL SCHOOL BUILDINGS WHICH THE SCHOOL HAD OUTGROWN (INCUDED AMONG THESE WAS ROUNTREE HALL). THE LEGISLATURE APPROPRIATED $135,000 FOR THE NEW BUILDING, WITH THE REST OF THE COSTS BEING COVERED BY THE $150,000 RAISED BY THE SALE OF THE OLD BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS. THE MAIN BUILDING WAS BUILT ON THE SITE OF THE OLD ATHLETIC FIELD. IN 1911, LANDS FOR A NEW ATHLETIC FIELD, PLAY GROUNDS, AND TENNIS COURTS WERE PURCHASED. (FROM CATALOG, 1910-11, 1914-15). THE MAIN BUILDING CONTAINS LABORATORIES FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGES, PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY, BOTANY, ZOOLOGY, BACTERIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY, MUSIC, SPEECH AND RADIO BROADCASTING. (FROM CATALOG, 1970-72). |
