Additional Information: | A TWO-STORY, FRAME, LATE QUEEN ANNE HOUSE WITH LACY BARGEBOARDS, DECORATIVE WOODWORK ON THE PORCHES, AND SHINGLE TRIM. The rear wing was added sometime after 1976. Owned by the Sweggum family from at least 1875-1895. 2021: This 2-story Queen Anne house was constructed c.1880. It is rectangular in plan with a fieldstone foundation, clapboard walls, and an asphalt-shingled hipped and gable roof. The front elevation faces west and is asymmetrical in composition. The northern half of the building is a hipped-roof mass while the southern half is a side-gabled mass. The front elevation of the hipped-roof mass contains two singly-spaced 1-over-1 windows at the first story and two singly-spaced 1-over-1 windows at the second stories; all windows feature simple wood surrounds with ornamental wood crowns. A gablet projects from the front roof slope; the wall under this is clad in patterned wood shingles with a single-pane, fixed-sash window at the center. The gabled is accented by an ornate carved wood gable ornament. The front elevation of the side-gabled mass contains a 1-story shed-roofed porch with turned wood supports and railings and ornate carved wood spandrel panels. Inside the porch is a single door and a 1-over-1 window, both of which feature decorative wood crowns. Above the porch are two singly-placed 1-over-1 windows with decorative wood crowns. The south and north elevations also feature windows with decorative crowns, patterned wood shingles under the gables, and ornate carved wood gable ornaments. A 1-story addition to the rear elevation was added sometime after 1976. |
