Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. A TWO-STORY, GABLED FARMHOUSE. THE STONE USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION IS OF VARIOUS SIZES, AND HEAVY LINTELS APPEAR OVER THE WINDOWS. CHIMNEYS APPEAR AT EITHER END OF THE BUILDING. FRAME WINGS REMOVED IN CIRCA 1991-92. PART OF A COMPLETE RESTORATION. Property tax records indicate that John McKee, an Irish immigrant, owned this farmstead as early as 1850. McKee died nearly forty years later and the tract remained part of the family estate until 1899. The next year, the property was taken over by R.W. Uren, who held it until 1907. It was next owned by William McNeill from 1908-1917. In 1918, the property was purchased by David Williams, who farmed the property into the late 1930s. Earl Whitford owned the farmstead in the 1940s and 1950s. The property has been converted into a vacation home and provides no agricultural function. All buildings on parcel include: house (AHI 47044), barn (122926), log house (122927), gazebo (122928), garage (122929), silo (122930), fence (122931), windmill (122932), and wall (122933). |
