NOTES
Additional Information:This building is a 1 story and has a basillica shapeplan. The exterior fabric is clapboard and the foundation is concrete wash. There are lancet windows, some with colored glass. The roofline has exposed rafters. A short steeple has a round window in it. There are endboards. The roof is gabled. The loss of the steeple and new entry have changed this building to the extent that some of its integrity has been lost. It is not "hopelessly lost" with regards to its original character. A simple styling to begin with, the old church building has no architectural significance sice better examples can be found elsewhere.

The First Baptist Church was established in New Richmond in 1859. They met in the school and in private homes until 1869 when the congregational church let them use their building. The first pastor was T.B. Rogers. His salary was $300.00 a year. By 1887 there were 72 members. In 1876 a church was built on South Washington and West Fourth Street, now a park. This was destroyed in the cyclone and a new church was built on the present site in 1900. In January, 21903 a fire destroyed this church and the Baptists used the Congregational Church again. A new church was completed in June, 1904. It cost $1,800.00 and was valued at $2,500.00 when land and sheds were included. Electricity was included in this new building. A 1923 photo shows a belfry on the steeple. By 1957 a wood cresting has been put on and the belfry is gone. The church was remodeled in 1954 and in 1967 the entry was redone. In 1973 the bulding was sold to Community Child Care, a non-profit organization not affiliated with the church. A new Baptist church was built on North Shore Drive at this time.
