| Additional Information: | This 2 story commercial building has brick exterior fabric. The front 1st story has concrete stucco and plate glass exterior fabric with a stepped back entry. There are brick quoins, flat arches and a brick belt line between the brick floors. Side 1st floor windows are block glass. Window sills are stone. The photo is a side view. Alterations have detracted from the integrity of this building. It has no architectural significance because of this. Ths was the site of a detached frome building of 2 stories and shingled roof in 1887. The building was also on the site to the north (SC 24-20). A millinery shop was here then and also in 1892, although the buildng has been changed. It was not rebult until between 1900-1911 after the 1899 tornado destroyed the frame structure. It was rebuilt as a 2 story brick building with composite roof. The Post Office and telephone exchange were here in 1911 and 1912 (and in other years). This building was known as the Epley Building. Kiddy Korner shop was her in 1949. Sears has been in New Richmond since 1960. In 1973 it was at 251 S. Knowles Avenue (see SC 24-25). A 1911 photo shows a cornice with dentil moldings and awnings on the front. There are brick quoins and a store quoin arch over the front entry. A stained glass window with an American Eagle pattern is in a south side 1st story windows. |
