The first floor facade has been altered by the addition of glass bricks. The covered stairs leading to second floor are original to building. The Bank of New Glarus, the first bank in the community, was located in this building from 1893 to 1910. The bank's investors included Fred Kundert, Thomas Hefty, J.C. Zimmerman, and the partnership of Hefty and Kundert. In 1910 the bank moved to the corner of First Street and Fifth Avenue. After 1910 this was the long-term headquarters of the local phone company. |
