| Additional Information: | This vermillion colored brick house is two stories high. The main mass of the building is an "Ell" with a single story wing to the rear. Both the wing and the void between the legs of the Ell have simple porches with moulded eaves supported by turned columns in the tuscan mode. Simple limestone lintels and sills are used for both double and single windows. The entry door is paneled with one large light while the windows are one over one light. The primary window transom is fitted with colored glass cut to fit an elliptical muntin. While not ornate, this house appears to be in close to original condition and, as such is of architectural significance as an example of a somewhat later version of this local vernacular building style. This is the best example of this style within the city. M.O. Bently was a dentist who opened a practice in Sawyer in 1908 after graduating from the Milwaukee Medical College. |
