NOTES
Additional Information:This three story comercial building features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a cream brick exterior, a wood and cararra glass trim and a flat roof. Well-preserved elements of the the Italianate style are exhibited. These include a highly decorative cornice, brackets, and segmentally arched windows with brick window hoods. Minimal alterations have taken place since the building's date of construction. Kenneth H. Kallestad of 326 North Jackson Street owned the structure in 1982. This building, which is in good condition, is architecturally significant in that it represents a type, period, or method of construction. It is historically significant because it is associated with the commercial development of Janesville. Historical Statement: The 1870 assessment roll lists Thomas Mackin as owner of this property, valued at over 2,000.00. The directory for the same year lists Mackin as the proprietor of a saloon at this location. An 1888 photograph indicates that the building housed "T. Mackin & Son Wines, Liquors & Choice Cigars." In 1913, Joseph Hunt operated a saloon at this location.
