Additional Information: | DECORATIVE ARCH W/ KEYSTONE April 2020: The Viaduct Road Bridge (P-13-127) was constructed in 1896 by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad to carry the railroad tracks over Viaduct Road. This one-span, spandrel arch bridge is of coursed stone block construction and features contrasting ringstones with an accentuated keystone. A stone above the keystone on the west face of the bridge is inscribed with the year “1896.” A similarly placed stone on the east face of the bridge is inscribed with the year 1881, suggesting that the bridge was originally built in 1881 and was partly reconstructed along the west face in 1896. The Viaduct Road Bridge measures 48 feet wide at the deck and spans 24 feet. Stepped wingwalls of coursed stone construction project on each side. stone arch bridge |
